Abstract

This study investigates the distractors affecting learning in the Social Sciences and Citizenship Education course among high school students in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observations from a group of 150 secondary school students. The results indicate that electronic devices, environmental noise, and personal issues are the most significant distractors. Additionally, it was found that these distractors negatively impact academic performance. The conclusions suggest the need for educational strategies to minimize these distractors and improve the quality of learning in this course.
