OBJECTIVE: the main objective of the study was to determine the relationship of appetite and satiety
signals with the type of diet and nutritional status in infants under six months of age who attend the immunization program of the health center of the municipality of Morales, Izabal. METHOD: the method used was a cross-sectional analytical type, with a simple probabilistic sampling, which included 167 participants in mother/father-infant dyads, who were: interviewed, anthropometrically evaluated (by
taking weight and height), as well as surveyed on perception of hunger and satiety signals. RESULTS:
the results obtained showed that the most frequent type of feeding was mixed breastfeeding and nearly 75% came from breast milk substitutes, in addition to presenting significant differences according to nutritional status. It was shown that infants fed with mixed and artificial breastfeeding presented a higherpercentage of m alnutrition due to excess. CONCLUSION: the survey showed that 40.1% of mothers/ fathers presented a moderate perception, in addition to a greater sensitivity to perceiving appetite signals in contrast to satiety signals.
