Public policies: thinking and planning for the future

Objective: this study aims to describe the origins of public policies, including their conceptual foundations, evolution, and development. It also examines the significance that public policies have assumed in governmental management, especially considering that the democratic system has profoundly influenced modern social relations, particularly in the Western world and, in a unique manner, in Guatemala. Method: A descriptive bibliographic review was conducted. Various documentary sources were consulted to locate relevant information. Searches were performed using the descriptors "public policy," "planning," and "public management." Documents containing these search terms were selected for review.
