Aplicaciones emergentes del ultrasonido en el punto de atención

OBJETIVO: dar a conocer las aplicaciones emergentes del ultrasonido en el punto de atención (POCUS), su impacto y sus limitaciones. MÉTODO: se realizó una búsqueda exhaustiva en diversos metabuscadores y motores de búsqueda, empleando los términos ¨ultrasonido en el punto de atención¨, ¨ecografía enfocada¨, ¨ultrasonido de mano¨ y sus términos equivalentes en inglés, usando información publicada entre los años 2017 al 2024. RESULTADOS: las aplicaciones emergentes de POCUS incluyen el diagnóstico de múltiples patologías, en la guía de procedimientos invasivos, en la evaluación continua del estado del paciente y optimización del manejo en base a resultados y, en la educación médica. Puede ser aplicado por personal de salud de cualquier nivel de formación debidamente capacitado y certificado. La necesidad de su integración en la práctica médica actual surge del impacto generado debido a sus múltiples beneficios. Entre sus limitaciones principales se encuentra la operador-dependencia y su alcance diagnóstico limitado. CONCLUSIÓN: las aplicaciones emergentes de POCUS continúan promoviendo la investigación y el desarrollo de nuevas técnicas y protocolos, impulsando innovaciones, una tendencia positiva que busca optimizar la calidad de atención a los pacientes.
